The Wonders of Cruising Japan – Kirk Patterson
Kirk will use photos taken during his six years of cruising Japan to highlight the many reasons why Japan is one of the world’s best cruising grounds. He also discusses some of the challenges of cruising Japan and provide some “How To” information.
After a 25-year corporate career in Tokyo, Kirk returned to his native Canada to pursue his long-delayed desire to become an offshore cruiser, despite having zero sailing experience. He bought a 40’ steel cutter and then sailed year-round for four years (solo from Day One) along the British Columbia and Alaska coast. He then sailed to Hawaii, where he spent almost a year working as a Waikiki bartender, and then to Japan. He spent three years doing a full Japan circumnavigation (the first by a foreigner) and then another three years cruising western Japan.
For this talk, we shall meet in Colston Hall as usual but the speaker will present via Zoom.
