Voyage of Liberdade
The original Liberdade was sailed by Joshua Slocum and his family from Brazil to the USA in the late 19th century after Slocum’s first boat was damaged in a storm. Mike will tell us about how a replica Liberdade boat was built by David Sinnett-Jones and then how in 2000 Mike and David sailed it from Antigua to Norfolk, Virginia with yet more dramatic events on the voyage.
Mike has declined a fee for his talk but raises funds for the Centre for Cancer Immunology at Southampton University following his successful treatment some years ago.
