Heavy Weather Sailing

Peter Bruce is a sailor and a well known author. He has published books such as Solent Hazards, Solent and Island Tidal Streams and is the editor of a newly updated 7th edition of Heavy Weather Sailing.

For 50 years Heavy Weather Sailing has been regarded as the ultimate international authority on surviving storms at sea aboard sailing and motor vessels. The first edition was compiled by Adlard Coles in 1967. Since then technology has improved, but the weather certainly hasn’t.  The book brings together a wealth of expert advice from many of the great sailors of the present, including fresh accounts of yachts overtaken by extreme weather.

This is the definitive book for crews of any size contemplating voyages out of sight of land anywhere in the world, whether racing or cruising. We look forward to learning how to deal with heavy weather and hope never to need the knowledge.

Heavy Weather Sailing has long
reigned as the ultimate international authority on surviving storms at
sea aboard sailing and motor vessels. The book brings together a wealth
of expert advice from many of the great sailors of the present,
including fresh accounts of yachts overtaken by extreme weather, from
Ewan Southby Tailyour, Alex Whitworth, Peter Cook, and Larry and Lin
Pardey.
Techniques for coping with heavy seas are explored, and new
chapters have been added, giving advice on the use of storm sails,
taking shelter in heavy weather, handling multihulls in storms and one
on handling RIBs in high seas. Seasickness remedies are proposed, and a
detailed analysis is given of the meteorological conditions leading up
to a storm.
This is the definitive book for crews of any size
contemplating voyages out of sight of land anywhere in the world,
whether racing or cruising. It gives a clear message regarding the
preparations required, and the tactics to consider when it comes on to
blow. – See more at: http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/heavy-weather-sailing-9780713682434#sthash.1MGaEmPu.dpuf
