2015: Peter Batterley Winner

2015 JohnRugg Receives the Peter Batterley Trophy from StuartGaunt (Chairman)

The Peter Batterley Trophy for Photo Journalism – 2015 Award

This year GXSA launched a new prize sponsored by one of our founder members.  GXSA members were invited to write an article (with photographs), and the membership was asked to choose their favourite, by means of a popular vote conducted on the GXSA website.

We are pleased to announce that the Peter Batterley Trophy for Photo-Journalism was awarded in its first year to John Rugg, who composed an essay about Family Holidays to Coniston Water in the Lake District

The article is an excellent fit to Peter Batterley’s objectives, in being of help and interest to everyone, as it covers a cruising area that GXSA membership are not generally familiar with, and  provides useful tips on launching, sailing, and retrieving your boat, whilst having a wonderful holiday with lots of family fun.  You can read John’s article here, and there is also a list of the other worthy contenders that narrowly missed the vote.

We encourage all our members to capture their best summer tales and photos, and plan to enter the competition again in January 2016.  Remember the quote from Dylan Winter, who spoke at GXSA in 2014:

I find that I take a better photograph with the camera I have with me, than the one I left at home!”.

Well Done to John Rugg.  Good luck to everyone for next year.
