The CHIRP Charitable Trust was named ‘The Best Safety Service of the Year' at the 2017 Safety at Sea Awards, held during London International Shipping Week. CHIRP provides a free and confidential reporting programme for near miss and hazardous occurrences, sharing safety lessons learnt with 200,000 seafarers every year. David Carter is Vice Chairman of CHIRP’s Maritime Advisory Board.

David joined a major oil company as Deck Cadet in 1980, and was promoted to Master in 1998. Currently he has the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the RNR and is now serving full time as the Royal Navy’s Merchant Navy Liaison officer. He will share with us examples of how marine related incidents are reported and investigated. Yachtsmen can also contribute to and benefit from this programme.
